Hockeytown is Heard: Red Wings Announce Center Ice Logo For Centennial Season
100 years of Hockeytown.
The 2025-26 Detroit Red Wings season will mark 100 years of existence for the legendary franchise, and that milestone will be celebrated all year long.
To make it even more special, Red Wings fans had a hand in deciding an important piece of those celebrations.
The Red Wings announced that the “Hey Hey Hockeytown” design emerged as the clear favorite in a multi-week fan voting process and will serve as the Little Caesars Arena center ice logo for the 2025-26 season.
“The center ice fan vote, launched in partnership with Meijer, was a great way to get fans involved in Red Wings Centennial right from the start,” Asia Gholston, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, told DetroitRedWings.com. “Through an incredible response to this vote, fans have made it clear they’re fired up for what’s to come in celebrating 100 years of Hockeytown, which is only possible due to their unwavering support for the Winged Wheel.”
The look and design of the center ice logo honors “a century of rich hockey tradition in Detroit, while also representing the team’s present and future.”
There was a considerable amount of thought put into the detail of the logo.
The logo merges a redrawn version of the 1934 Winged Wheel with a modernized “100” design. The “1” and “0” echo the curves of the original mark, rendered in the club’s red and vintage white color scheme. Paired with the classic Hockeytown wordmark, which was introduced in 1996, the special logo ”honors the city and culture that have shaped one of the NHL’s most iconic franchises into what it is today.”
Gholston said they saw over 20,000 votes in the first 72 hours alone after opening the poll to fans.
“That response is proof of how passionate and engaged they are, and know this is a meaningful step in their eyes towards honoring our legacy.”
The Wings finished their 99th season with a 39-35-8 record, missing the postseason for the 9th year in a row — the longest playoff drought in franchise history. They’ll be looking to turn their fortunes around in a season as monumental as their centennial.

Steve Yzerman was one of the greatest hockey players in NHL history. In Detroit Red Wing history, in the ladder of glory, he is only rated one rung below Mr. Hockey himself Gordie Howe. But with his playing days far behind him, for the last 6 years Stevie Y has been the General Manager of the Red Wings. He succeeded the legendary GM Ken Holland (who has not found the same success elsewhere).
The Red Wings find themselves in the basement on the Detroit sports scene with the powerful Lions of the NFL, the youthful Tigers in the MLB, and the surprising Pistons in the NBA. The Red Wings have been under-achievers over the past 2 years. But the future does not look all that bad. The Red Wings like the Detroit Tigers, have one of the best farm systems in the league. While Yzerman's free agents haven't panned out, his drafting has been above average, maybe well above average.
Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Marco Kasper, and Simon Edvinsson are on the Red Wings now. The young prospects in the system are ready move up to the big club, and there are many including: Nate Danielson, Axel Sandin Pellikka, Michael Brandsegg Nygard, and Sebastian Cossa just to name very few.
The past 9 years have been difficult and disappointing. The next 5 plus years look much brighter.
